bought my Ipad 2 for giving presentations, as my laptop is bulky. Keynote is quite good for basic presentations and accepts powerpoint ppt files too. Ipad is a very unique experience if u have only used PCs before. Advantages are : 1. Zero noise compared to laptops, if you hate that nagging fan noise. 2. Easy app installation and quite a lot of them( app hunting can be addictive). More than 300,000 apps, some useless and some good and useful for a nominal price. 3. RSS feeders are excellent for news, magazines etc. Reading magazines is good in Ipad bcoz of the right screen size ratio. Apps like Goodreader is good for PDF files and good for students, if u need to annotate PDF files etc.. (my biggest use now). 4. Lots of pod-casts and audio-books on various topics; some even in HD ( very few regular ones). 5. Excellent battery life, 10 hours- biggest plus point. ( Steve Jobs did not want to compromise this with Flash playing, Well its a trade off to put up with) 6. Excellent finish and quality as with all Apple products, and the built is quite robust. Ipad is portable... hence u WILL drop it sometime or the other like me, and u will thank its sturdiness then, another trade off there with the weight, I guess. 7. The operating environment IOS 5 is very secure, with no known viruses yet and hence good for secure sites and on-line banking. 8. Driving games are so good and easy to play with Ipad, but only a few are worth paying the £.
Disadvantages that I have experienced are quite numerous (so do your research well to see if the Ipad suits you). 1. Limitations in controlling file layouts and deleting stuff compared to Windows, which has improved recently with the IOS 5. 2. No USB port ( using a camera connector give message "too much power required" even for normal USB data stick) 3. The need to connect to PC with Itunes for checking free disk space, deleting pod-casts, movies etc was a problem before, which is resolved now with IOS 5. 4. "Limited" Multi-tasking. 5. Poor quality of still camera. ( I am still to find any use of this as my phone camera is better than this). 6. Unable to download files from website with Ipad Safari browser, although other independent apps allow some funcionality in this respect, but much limited compared to Windows. 7. Only plays MP4 movie files, not the common AVI, MKV, XVID etc, but some recent apps have "acceptable" compatibility with most of them now. 8. I run out of space with 32GB, so get a 64GB. 9. Cannot read ebooks for long periods compared to ereaders due to eye strain from LCD screen. 10.Cannot view video content on websites with Safari browser like flash content, but a separate youtube app ( free) is helpful. 11.You still need a Laptop or Desktop as main computer. 12.The need to switch alphabet and numeric layout in keyboard is irritating, but it allows connecting to a bluetooth keyboard with ease. 13. You cannot change the battery yourself. Need to send it to Apple and they will send back one with a new battery for a price of 100 dollars.

Gemstone Buying Guide (What to look for outside the US)

A word that is being used in the description of many ebay painting listings is "Plein Air". I thought I would write this guide to help describe just what that means, what makes for a plein air painting, and how you can tell if you are truely looking at one. "En plein air" is a French expression which means "in the open air", and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors. Painting on location in the open air is also called "Painting from Life". "Painting from Life" is a sensory pursuit like no other painting experience and working in natural light is a challenge for any artist. It challenges the artist to focus on sight, sound, surroundings and atmosphere and merge all of this information into a creation on canvas or paper in a limited amount of time. The goal is to capture the moment, the light, the color, the feeling... which can change in a matter of seconds. Sometimes it happens, and sometimes it doesn't. But when it does all come together, there is a harmony of man with nature, and for me, there is harmony with The One who created that nature in the first place.

Turtle beach x12s

Hey guys, i bought turtle beach x12s a while ago and i thought i should share my thoughts with you guys so you guys don't end up spending you money on something you might think is trash.
Well the turtle beach x12 is a headset that is made for the xbox, its the same as the x11 but the x12 just have a new design for the new xbox 360 slim.
The x12 have a ton of wire but its easy to set up and you cannot play hd unless you buy a hd audio adapter so you can plug it in and you will need the hdmi and a hd tv to play in hd with it. It comes with a turtle beach sticker and a stop sign to tell you all the warnings. if you play with a wired controller then there will be a buzzing sound while you are playing the game.
The padding is good but there is one downside sense its huge and goes around your ear and not on top of it then it will make your hair look all weird
and after a while it will starting hurting and get hot in it. The headset size is adjustable incase you have a big head or a small one.
The headsets also work on the pc/mac you just plug in the green wire and then the usb. The pink wire is useless unless you buy a usb looking thing so you can use it on the ps3. There is also bass boost which is helpful if you want to hear someone throwing a bomb or planting a claymore around the corner. its not was to sound whore unless your willing to hurt your ears like crazy. otherwise its a amazing product and i love it.

Fine things begin with a good cup of hot tea

Ever since I was a little girl, I was always intrigued by China, Tea Cups, and delicate collectibles from the days of old. I used to fantasize that I was born to royalty. I used to dream of what it would have been like to be alive in the 1770's, and in the 1800's and early 1900's too. My grandmother and her ladyfriends always had the most beautifal tea cups. Now, I love to collect and sell them. Sometimes at night, when everyone in the house is sleeping, I sit with a cup of raspberry tea, and just look at tea cups on line for hours...

Guide to authentic Inuit art/Eskimo art stone carving

About Inuit Stone Carvings

The Internet in general offers a range of Inuit art sellers and retailers. It is important to know when you are purchasing art that you are investing in a quality authentic work. There are a number of things to watch out for when considering your investment.

Buying an authentic piece of soapstone or serpentine carving is a wonderful way to begin or add to your collection of sculpture and figures at a relatively modest cost. The figures we offer are vintage from the 1950's through present and are an exciting art form that has long been recognized as a highly collectible and profitable investment. These works from our Canadian native first nations artists will not over time depreciate in value but only grow more valuable. Why not own and protect a solid and valuable piece of North American heritage.
Know Your Stone

Inuit Eskimo Native Canadian stone carvings and figures come in a variety of stone types, regions, sizes, color, quality, and aging back as far as their nomadic area when they created works to adorn their habitat and as children’s toys. It was not until the 1950’s that people realized they were carving beautiful works of art and they were encouraged to do so.
Serpentine

The stone found in Baffin Island is metamorphic rock - has a composition similar to jade and is known as Steatite or Serpentine. Its varying color (ranging from light to dark green, to brown and black) is derived from the veining and inclusion of minerals such as iron and quartzite and is considered a semi-precious metal. Serpentine holds much value in a collection
Sedimentary

Sanikiluaq is a long thin island group found in Hudson Bay. Sanikiluaq is part of the new territory of Nunivut. The stone there is sedimentary, formed from layers of sediment compressing. All stone found in Sanikiluaq are layered, some more subtly than others. A dark patch in the stone indicates it is metamorphosing. Most of the rock is limestone, which is generally lime green in color, but Charcoal grey and black pieces can also be found as a result of carbon in the stone. The Keewatin region is on the western edge of Hudson Bay north of Churchill.
Basalt

Baker Lake, Rankin Inlet and Arviat are the major communities in this area. The entire region is part of the new territory of Nunavut, a self-governing Inuit region in northern Canada.

Of particular note in this distinctive stone; this area was very mountainous before the glacial age and the stone found here is igneous volcanic rock known as Basalt often hundreds of thousands of years old. A very hard stone to work with and as such a fine polish is almost never achieved. Basalt is frequently identified with a large number of vintage works.
Soapstone

(also known as steatite) is a metamorphic rock,. It may largely be composed of the mineral talc and is thus rich in magnesium. It has been a medium for carving in cultures around the world for thousands of years. Soapstone found in areas of the Canadian Arctic largely varies in color and density. All variations of soapstone are reasonably soft and a skillful artist is able to hone an immaculate smooth finish. Although often times beautifully and intricately carved soapstone requires additional care in handling so as not to damage the softer variations especially.
Imported Stone

Alabaster and soapstone imported from other countries such as Brazil, Italy and United States (Arizona) are sometimes used in Inuit sculpture.

Damaged Carvings

Considering the many decades stone carvings have been collected and traded over great distances it is not surprising to see especially in softer and older stone some damage which can range from minor to very significant. Damage is the one thing overall that no matter how valuable the piece may have been could affect the value greatly to the negative.
Minor - Pock marks may occur over time and careless handling but are very commonly seen and easy to mistake for natural inclusions in older stone especially. This damage is superficial and may not affect the price greatly. Older works with a few pock marks are still a worthy investment.

Major - It has happened now and again that in shipping or mishandling a work is broken into more than one piece and has been “repaired” sometimes so skillfully that you would not know the difference one way or the other. While the piece may look just as good as new the piece will never be as structurally sound as it was once whole. Some may be tempted to sell such a work as if no damage occurred. It is always within the best interest of the entire collecting community that the seller be honest of such circumstances and offer a reasonable discount and ensure that any repair has been executed masterfully.

Certified Authenticity

To protect yourself from fakes or reproductions, always look for works that have been certified by the Canadian government with the COA Igloo tag which assures you it has been made by Inuit artisans. In addition there are Galleries/Resellers who are educated and well respected within the collecting community and by the northern Coops who are credited to produce their own official igloo tags bearing the galleries logo and additional relevant information. Each piece is individually carved, so seeing two identical pieces on a shelf or in a photo is an obvious clue that it must be a reproduction as there are no two AUTHENTIC pieces that are identical. In addition to the Canada igloo sticker and tag shown in photo, some pieces are also signed with symbolic characters called syllabics which represent the Inuit people’s traditional written language, Inuktitut. The tag also gives you information about the age and the community where the artist lived. Cape Dorset, Pangnirtung, Ivujivik, Naujat Repulse Bay, Clyde River, George River - these are a few of the communities where artists carve their stone figures.
