How to install a new breadmaker pan shaft seal

How to install a new breadmaker pan shaft seal.

First you must remove the pan shaft and the old seal.

1) Remove the snap ring from the bottom of the shaft. Set aside the snap ring, coupler/impeller, and fiber/metal washer.

2) Gently tap the shaft from bottom side through top side using a rubber mallet. If needed use a small dowel rod & the mallet to tap the shaft all the way through.

Now you're ready to strip & clean the drive shaft, then move on to installation.

1) Strip the shaft bare.

2) Clean the shaft with WD-40 or Hand Sanitizer Gel and a microfiber towel. If the shaft is very gummed up you may use 0000 steel wool.

Now you're ready to install the parts.

1) On the top end of the shaft place the e-clip onto the recessed cut out around the diameter of the shaft. (Make sure the clip is snapped in place securely.)

2) Slide a fiber washer onto the shaft from the bottom end up to the e-clip.

3) Place the bottom end of the shaft through the pan from top side. (Be sure to hold the washer in place so that it does not fall off.)

4) Once the shaft is in place turn the pan onto its side. Then place a fiber washer onto the shaft. Make sure its snug against the bottom of the pan.

5) Now place the coupler/impeller onto the shaft with the wings facing toward the pan.

6) Now place the snap ring onto the bottom of the shaft. You will see the recessed cut out around the diameter of the shaft just below the impeller that you just placed. Place the snap ring onto the recess and then snap it on securely.

Now you're ready to lubricate using liquid graphite Lock-Ease. Turn your pan upright and follow the directions below.

1) Apply the liquid graphite to the shaft from top side nearest the recess in the pan. The liquid graphite will flow down the shaft into the bearing.

2) Now turn the shaft back and forth sevral times while counting to ten.

Now it's time to install the new seal.

1) Holding the seal face up slip the seal onto the shaft. Slide the seal down the shaft until you reach the recess in the pan.

2) Now use your fingers to firmly press the seal into the recess until it is flush with the bottom inside of the pan. If there is too much resistance you may need to use a lubricant to help with the seating of the seal. Use only Hand Sanitizer Gel as a seating lubricant. If you need additional leverage to seat the seal you may use a deepwell socket that has a diameter slightly smaller than the seal. Be sure to place a long extension on the socket. Place the socket onto the seal and then firmly press and wobble the socket in a circular motion until the seal has seated flush with inside bottom of the pan.

3) Turn the shaft back and forth a few more times.

4) Allow the lubricant to dry before using the pan to bake bread. Allow at least 3 hours to pass before use. (I recommend 24 hours to be completely safe.)
