Candy Wrapper Favors - What to know about wrappers

I've been making Candy Wrappers for 16 years now. Long before they were such a big hit as they are today. I'll try to tell you things to look for and what to avoid when purchasing these wonderful favors for your wedding, party, or other event.

Here are some things to look for:

Does the auction itself look professional? By that I mean, does it have misspelled words? If so the person might also misspell something on your wrappers. Just make sure you proof them very well.

Speaking of proofs, make sure that the person you choose to do your favors is able to do an online proof of the final product. This way you will be able to catch anything that might be wrong and avoid a delay later.

How many wrappers are included in the auction you are bidding on? This is very important. Some people confuse the number of dutch items up for sale for the number included in the auction. If you see that a certain number just below the bid button that is the number of auctions that are available in that offering. The number in each auction should appear either in the title and or in the body of the auction itself. If no number appears in either you should contact the seller to make sure it is for the number of items that you need.

How many do you need? If you are purchasing large bars, say at least 1.55 ounce then you will only need one per person. If you are purchasing smaller bars, say miniatures you would need to have 3 per person at your event.

Is the candy included? This is important to know. Many sellers prefer to not sell the candy. It has to do with the shipping of chocolate especially in the summer months. If the candy is included you'll need to be sure that it will be packed accordingly. Does the seller pack it with the appropriate cold packs and will it be shrink wrapped to keep the condensation of that cold pack away from your wrappers? It should be shipped overnight from April until November in most areas. Some should be shipped this way all year long. Especially in the warmer climates. One thing to remember, if you are ordering wrapped chocolates, once they do arrive let the package come to room temperature for a minimum of 8 hours before opening the box. This will give everything time to settle back in it's original shape before handling.

If you are ordering just the wrappers make sure you find out if they are cut or uncut. If they are uncut they are that way because it's the hardest part of making wrappers. Especially when it comes to the smaller ones like miniatures. Keep this in mind that you will need to cut them. Most likely a paper cutter will be necessary to get them cut accurately. You can always go to your local copy shop and see if they have a paper cutter available for use by the public or have them cut them for you. It's usually pretty inexpensive and they cut them all at once.

When your wrappers arrive, make sure you check the order carefully. Check for centering and accuracy of cutting. Are they straight? Did they include wrapping instructions? If not you'll need to contact them to make sure you are wrapping them in the manner they were intended. How they are made determines how they need to be wrapped, so all wrappers are not the same.

What to avoid:

Avoid buying wrappers that are sticky backed labels. These items are against the mandate of the candy manufacturers for two reasons. One is that they obscure the original wrapper and it's required information and the other is that the glue on the backs of these wrappers can migrate to the candy itself and contaminate it. Many candy manufacturers have guidelines on over wrapping their items and this is a big no no to them. But you don't have to take my word for it, Hershey is a VeRo (Verified Rights Owner) member here on eBay. To see Hershey's policy on this just do a search for the Ebay name JRCANDY and the guidelines are in their ME page. Or from the VeRo page in Ebay look for Hershey in the Food section. A professional candy wrapper will know this information and abide by it. The two items I see this most abused are the nuggets and the kisses.

Avoid buying wrappers with trademarked characters, these are items with Disney, Nickelodeon, Spiderman, and other characters that have active trademarks by these companies. The reason is that most likely the seller doesn't have permission to be selling these items and is doing so against the trademark laws. If you see one you like, it's best to contact the company that owns that trademark (not the seller) before purchasing to be sure that it's a legal item. If it is then the company will be happy to let you know that they are legitimate and have permission. You wouldn't want to be caught purchasing illegal items.

What's new in Candy Wrappers?

The newest thing to be on the market are the new patent pending IN-velope TM Wrappers. They make the wrapping of your items a breeze and don't limit you to one type of item for your guests. These IN-velope TM Wrappers allow you to simply slip in one of about 50 different items and just seal the ends. They are adhesive just like a regular mailing envelope. This way you don't have to worry about shipping chocolates, you don't have to worry about them being the right size for a specific item and you can very easily wrap any item yourself saving on shipping costs and the mark ups of the candy itself. These items also give you a lot of flexibility when it comes to favors. If you want to be able to give different things to different people this is definately the way to go.

Just be sure to purchase IN-velope TM Wrappers from our auctions. We are the only distributor on ebay for them at this time. Beacause we are the only distributor you will only find these in professional designs, and always at our high quality. New designs are being added all the time so be sure to check my auctions frequently or ask if there is a specific need that you have.

I hope this information has been beneficial in your quest to find the perfect candy wrapper for your event. If you have any questions by all means feel free to ask.
